Celebrity Mentorship: Carly Hughes
Carly currently stars as Angela in ABC’s hit sitcom “American Housewife” opposite the hilarious Katy Mixon and Ali Wong. The show recently returned for an exciting new season this past fall and new episodes air each Friday. As one of Katie’s only friends in Westport, Carly’s character, Angela, is a show stealer in the series. Angela is a hip lawyer going through a spectacularly messy divorce, and she's not afraid to tell you about it over “Second Breakfast.” She is very smart, ballsy and brutally honest as well. Additionally, the show recently ended its third season on a high note, literally! The season finale was a musical episode that aired to great praise. Carly got the opportunity to shine since she is no stranger to Broadway fans, having appeared in eight Broadway shows (“Chicago,” “Pippin,” “Beautiful,” etc.) and is a true triple threat! She was excited to bring her Broadway background to the hit sitcom and to be working with such great material by Justin Paul, Glenn Slater and Ashley Wallen for the fun finale that includes a show-stopping, cheeky performance of an original song titled “Full Westport.” Carly also has recurring roles on Netflix series “Insatiable” and HBO's “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
In addition to the very hilarious new season of “American Housewife,” Carly is a Breast Cancer Research Fund Ambassador and this year, she and her lovely mother appear as the face of their new campaign, Research is the Reason, which will run through June. Both Carly’s mom and stepmom are breast cancer survivors, so she is very passionate about this. Her mom is an oncology nursing assistant who has spent the majority of her life helping others with cancer - and then got it herself. She even went back to work to help others following her diagnosis!
